WHAT IS MASSAGE THERAPY?

Massage is the manipulation of the superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue (fascia) to enhance the function of the physical body, to relieve pain and built-up tension, as well as promote relaxation and well-being. As an accepted part of physical rehabilitation programs, massage has proven beneficial for many chronic conditions and helps relieve the stress and tension of everyday living that can lead to disease and illness. Various modalities, techniques and tools are being integrated to provide you with the most effective outcomes. These can include e.g. Trigger Points and Reflexology.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE

Deep Tissue Massage is used to target knots and release chronic muscle tension & pain as well as assists in injury rehabilitation. It is also beneficial for reducing inflammation and to help eliminate scar tissue. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia.

Deep Tissue is a massage using slower strokes, thumbs, forearms, and elbows to help release the chronic patterns of the muscular tension. Unlike Swedish (Relaxation) Massage where the strokes go with the muscle fibers, Deep Tissue also uses strokes across muscle fibers, i.e. cross fiber friction where necessary. The more intense movements and techniques such as deeper finger & forearm / elbow pressure may be slightly uncomfortable and can cause some soreness that lasts a day or two before resulting in the desired relaxation and pain relief. This treatment requires some of your participation and communication to indicate the presence and intensity of pain and discomfort and will be performed according to your comfort level for best results and relief.
